I frequently mention Picasa as a favorite tool.  This is a quick example of how it can be used.

One of my projects is dealing with folks in Hampton where we are building a small museum in the old depot.  One of the things I needed to do was get a fairly good pic of the depot.

I found this one, but the pools, signs etc did not look real good in displaying a very old depot.

After a little work using only Picasa 3, I came up with this.  It is far from art quality, but it will do for right now.

Depot with a little Picasa

More information on the expanding Google services in support for businesses.  Worth reviewing and considering.  It is not going to replace my MS Office programs, yet, but it is looking good.

via Google Apps: Free Business Tools, Plus Collaboration Services | Practical eCommerce

As Google expands the number of tools and services it offers, it also seeks to package those services so they can be linked with each other and between the main user and other collaborators. This is the idea behind Google Apps, a suite of productivity and collaboration tools.

Google launched its Apps program in 2006, with “Gmail For Your Domain,” with 2 GB of storage and the ability to link the Gmail account to a custom domain name. Later that year it included other services like Calendar, Talk and Page Creator.

When conducting research time wasters can kill your effort – and frustrate you enough to quit before getting a complete answer to you query.

I use as few words as I can in search engines, keeping in mind that some search efforts must be more complex.  The guidance in this article is a good starting point for all searches.

From the CSMonitor.

Top Bing and Google search tip: Cut to the chase – CSMonitor.com.

When using Bing and Google, eliminate words that search engines will regard as noise, or that introduce ambiguity.
…To mitigate the wordiness of their users, many search engines simply ignore a lot of junk terms – mostly prepositions, articles, and symbols such as $, #, or %. Since computers don’t acknowledge these in-between words, don’t bother adding them…more

I am not sure we need another shortener, but since this one is from Google it will probably become the standard.  I haven’t tried it yet.   All comments/reviews are welcome.

Considering how things normally progress I suspect that eventually search engines will somehow get around to working better with articles using this method of shortening URL’s.

Have fun,
Jim

Found this at Search Engine Land:

Google URL Shortener Opened To The Public; Comparing To Bit.ly & Twitter

Just what the world needs, another URL shortener, right? Google seems to think to, and it’s now making its own Goo.gl service widely available to anyone — complete with tracking and statistics — for free.

Below, more about the new entry, how it compares to the more established Bit.ly plus a look at Twitter’s “wrapping” service.  …more…

Posted by: | Comments (0)

With the importance of Google – SEO for online sellers I will try to populate this category with relavant information and links fro contributors, links, and articles such as this from Google Power User Tips: Query Operators.

Have fun,
Jim

I love showing off my Google power searching skills when presenting or meeting or talking with a prospective client. I just know it boosts my credibility in the eyes of my audience. Invest a bit of time in learning some of the lesser-used Google query refinements — i.e. the operators, parameters, and so forth — and you too can amaze your friends, family, boss, co-workers and clients!
