Pretty good information on listing as places.  Toward the end of the article is a listing of numerous sites worth checking to see it you are listed and more importantly, if you are listed correctly.  I found that some sites show my new store is a block away from its actual location.

From Net Magellan, 3 November 2010, Superpages.com tops 2010 USA IYP Rankings | Net Magellan

“Just over a year ago I published SEO ranking of US IYPs across 274 cities. Exactly a month ago I took the same ranking measurements, but did not publish them owing to a lack of time. A couple of days ago, Google announced the deployment of Place Search, (a new layout of the results page) which is not yet firmed up (in my opinion) but which has caused consternation among some observers in the popular Webmasterworld forum. I also blogged about it yesterday.” continued

What Is Social CRM?

Posted by: | Comments (1)

I routinely check  Social Media Examiner for insight on how to better use the media for personal and professional reasons.  Here is a pretty good discussion on its use for business.

What Is Social CRM? | Social Media Examiner

You keep hearing about this social customer relationship management (CRM) thing, right? It’s definitely been a hot topic.

Here are some important points to consider when thinking about social CRM.

I frequently meet folks involved in non-profit or charitable efforts who have no idea about how to leverage the free services found on the Internet.  I asked them to check on this site and send any questions they may have because there are a lot of us willing to help at no charge.

I found this article By Rich Brooks, at Social Media Examiner. on November 2, 2010.  Hopefully it will help and help you when you are trying to assist those groups.

Click on 21 Ways Non-Profits Can Leverage Social Media | Social Media Examiner

“By Rich Brooks, Published November 2, 2010:  Like their for-profit brethren, many non-profits understand that using social media can help them reach and engage their audience, create momentum and build community.  However, there’s uncertainty around how to create a sustainable social media campaign, although the tools are plentiful and often free.

It looks like this feature may be used to help or hurt online ecommerce.  This needs to be evaluated in depth.

Bing Social Search: Are ‘Likes’ the New Links? | Practical eCommerce

Organic search revolves increasingly around personalization, delivering relevance not just to a searcher’s literal query, but also to the implied intent, geographic location, and historical preferences.

Earlier this month Bing took another step toward integrating Facebook’s social data into the personalization mix by launching “Liked Results and Facebook Profile Search” in its primary web search results. Bing discussed the launch in its blog post “Bing Gets More Social With Facebook.”

Talk about time management.  About the only thing better than the information in here is removing and blocking all games.  Here is another Practical eCommerce article that we can all use.

Managing Pop-Ups in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome | Practical eCommerce

Ecommerce professionals spend many hours each day online. They monitor their businesses, check email, market products, post to social media sites, watch the competition, or otherwise do any one of a hundred business-related activities.

Into the midst of this online experience come pop-ups—ads, forms, controls, whatever. Perhaps, most of the time, you don’t want pop-ups interrupting your browsing. But other times, you do. For example, if you are looking at prices or specifications on a competitor’s site, the “compare products” feature probably opens in a pop-up window. Some ecommerce platforms also use pop-ups to display reports or other information. And, more specifically, if you use PayPal to process online orders, you must allow pop-ups for at least the PayPal domain.

In this article, I will describe how to find and use the pop-up manager in three popular web browsers: Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) 9, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrom…READ ON..

One of the ideas Danna Crawford came up with to get folks to open up and share information is our monthly meeting using Skype.

In the Army we would have referred to the meeting as a BOGSAT (that is a Bunch of Guys Sitting Around Talking) where more things get resolved than in any committee.

We meet on the third Monday of each month at 9:00 PM Eastern Time.  Attendance is open to all members and everyone has a chance to talk about what they are involved with and to bring up any challenges they are facing concerning all aspects of online business.  Most issues are resolved in the meeting and those that are not are followed up on by someone with knowledge that may help.

This is like getting a lifetime consultation contract for the price of your VOL membership.  But it is not all business.  The meetings are fun, entertaining and may last well into the night, so join up and join in, and have fun.

Celebrating 100 Posts: Graphic Give-A-Way from eCommerce Developer

“For the past year, I’ve been producing Photoshop and Illustrator video tutorials for Ecommerce Developer. For my 100th post (this one), I wanted to do something a little different: offer some free files for you to use in web design projects.

These files are all available for commercial use for free under the creative commons license. Attribution is not necessary, but is welcome.

In these collections, you will find pricing comparison tables, web boxes, swatches, an icon set, vector elements and various other web elements. Most of these are available in both Photoshop and Illustrator, with just a few exceptions.

Each of these designs has been created in a way that allows you to easily change the color scheme to best fit your theme. I will briefly explain how to do this in the accompanying video.”

We have a lot of balls in the air but the one we can least afford to drop while juggling is ‘time’.  If we don’t manage that the others will fall and we fail.
In my constant search for better time management I came across this item at Practical eCommerce (one of my favorite sites).  Hope it is beneficial.

5 Timesaving Social Networking Tools | Practical eCommerce
“A concern I often hear from those new to social networking is the amount of time it takes to manage engagement activities, such as tweeting or posting status updates to Facebook and LinkedIn.  While there’s no cost to use these channels, time is valuable and, therefore, the more efficient its utilization, the more cost-effective it becomes.

This article presents five tools that will help you make the most of your social-networking time. You won’t need to use all five, however. I simply want to give you a good selection to choose from”. ...read on...

NOTE FROM JKP:  The entry goes on to discuss the following five tools:

  1. NutshellMail, from Constant Contact
  2. Sprout Social, a social media management and monitoring console
  3. TweetDeck a third-party Twitter applications
  4. HootSuite to manage different social profiles and accounts
  5. CoTweet designed for organizational use

via Google Apps: Free Business Tools, Plus Collaboration Services | Practical eCommerce

As Google expands the number of tools and services it offers, it also seeks to package those services so they can be linked with each other and between the main user and other collaborators. This is the idea behind Google Apps, a suite of productivity and collaboration tools.

Google launched its Apps program in 2006, with “Gmail For Your Domain,” with 2 GB of storage and the ability to link the Gmail account to a custom domain name. Later that year it included other services like Calendar, Talk and Page Creator.
