Monday, November 8, 2010, Building Passive Income Streams – Anyone Can Do It

People often ask me if all I do is sell on eBay. No. I have many other income streams. eBay is just one of them. The key to making money with multiple streams of income is persistence, time, and commitment. For example, here is my history on eHow – an article writing site.

I started writing for eHow back in June 2007. I didn’t even know the site paid its writers. I was just writing articles about how to do stuff on eBay. In January of 2008, money started showing up in my Paypal account. I have submitted 316 articles to eHow since September 2007. The last article I submitted was in February 2010. (I stopped submitting articles when the system changed and it became more time consuming to write there.) Click here to see my profile. My articles have had over 1 million views in the last 3 years and I am now making about $35 a day and haven’t submitted anything in over 8 months. I now make enough money from this income stream to pay my mortgage.  Continued below:

What Is Social CRM?

Posted by: | Comments (1)

I routinely check  Social Media Examiner for insight on how to better use the media for personal and professional reasons.  Here is a pretty good discussion on its use for business.

What Is Social CRM? | Social Media Examiner

You keep hearing about this social customer relationship management (CRM) thing, right? It’s definitely been a hot topic.

Here are some important points to consider when thinking about social CRM.

This looks like a good explanation of the PayPal Checkout Design.

via Deconstructing PayPal’s Radical Checkout Redesign « Get Elastic Ecommerce Blog

I recently made a number of purchases from various sellers on the same day through the Etsy marketplace, which uses PayPal as its checkout solution. Nine times out of 10 I was presented with PayPal’s “new” checkout process, and once with the “old.” A split test test or a mistake, I’m not sure – though Etsy is large enough that PayPal might conduct a test through it.

Of course, I always have my screenshot application open, so I captured a screenshot of both checkout options so we can study PayPal’s radical checkout redesign. (Please note that Shipping Address was already collected in a previous step on the Etsy website, these shots deal only with making payment).

Bing Social Search: Are ‘Likes’ the New Links? | Practical eCommerce

Organic search revolves increasingly around personalization, delivering relevance not just to a searcher’s literal query, but also to the implied intent, geographic location, and historical preferences.

Earlier this month Bing took another step toward integrating Facebook’s social data into the personalization mix by launching “Liked Results and Facebook Profile Search” in its primary web search results. Bing discussed the launch in its blog post “Bing Gets More Social With Facebook.”

4 Rules for Marketing on Twitter

Posted by: | Comments (0)

I know I sometimes fail to follow all these rules; and I am sure I should.  It seems good to have a lot followers, friends and likers on the various social media systems, but in the long run it pays to set some standards.

This article from Practical eCommerce, October 26, 2010  by Paul Chaney elaborates on four basic rules.  ..check the complete blog

Rule 1: You Must Win the Right to be Heard

Rule 2: Don’t Follow Just to Pitch

Rule 3: Provide Value to the Community

Rule 4: Mix Business with Pleasure

Cleaning Old Wood and Other Items

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Whether we are rummaging through our attics, picking in other folk’s  old stuff (aka junk), receiving items on consignment as Trading Assistants, or buying yard sale, estate and auctions, we run across weird situations requiring cleaning.   If we go by most guides on cleaning we’ll need a frequent shopper discount at Home Depot.

I am always on the watch for better (and cheaper if it works) ways of getting things done.

Not long ago I learned about a mixture called ‘furniture juice’.  It has allegedly been used for years by antique dealers when cleaning old wood.  Mix equal amounts of white (not Apple) vinegar, turpentine (paint and hardware stores) and boiled (not raw) linseed oil (also found in paint and hardware stores).  Shake it well and frequently since the ingredients will settle and separate.  Clean wood using very fine, like recommend 000 or 0000 steel wool.   Don’t apply to the entire item.  Apply to one area at a time scrubbing vigorously.  When dry wipe off with a clean cloth and you normally will not need to wax or polish the item.

Along those lines I found another source of ideas at Tips From TipNut free to sign up and get there newsletter including daily tips, which may be on just about anything.

Talk about time management.  About the only thing better than the information in here is removing and blocking all games.  Here is another Practical eCommerce article that we can all use.

Managing Pop-Ups in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome | Practical eCommerce

Ecommerce professionals spend many hours each day online. They monitor their businesses, check email, market products, post to social media sites, watch the competition, or otherwise do any one of a hundred business-related activities.

Into the midst of this online experience come pop-ups—ads, forms, controls, whatever. Perhaps, most of the time, you don’t want pop-ups interrupting your browsing. But other times, you do. For example, if you are looking at prices or specifications on a competitor’s site, the “compare products” feature probably opens in a pop-up window. Some ecommerce platforms also use pop-ups to display reports or other information. And, more specifically, if you use PayPal to process online orders, you must allow pop-ups for at least the PayPal domain.

In this article, I will describe how to find and use the pop-up manager in three popular web browsers: Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) 9, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrom…READ ON..

Being a retro-Geek I am always in search of things that are or were cutting edge technology, meaning of course that digging through piles of rusty tools is heaven.   Frequently I run across items that I know were hi-tech in their day, ie my 1895 draw knife with folding wooden handles.  Even if I don’t know what the things are I frequently must have them, then when I find they have no retail value I change from being a dealer to being a collector (never a hoarder).

One of the sites that has helped greatly in identifying these finds is Rose Tools.  She has excellent descriptions and photographs, you may register free without listing a credit card, and she has a link to educational information on antique tools.  You may also be tempted by the enormous number of antique tools she has listed for sale.  Try this site if you have any interest in tools, antiques, or visit estate and yard sales, you may be walking right past a gold mine in retro-Geek items.

From Rose Antique Tools old tools and history.

This site is dedicated to the memory of my sister Karen who always encouraged me to do the things that I really wanted no matter what others may think, and to a very special friend of mine John who loved antique tools very much. I miss them both dearly.

I would also like to say a very special thank you, to every man and woman in our military forces, who are risking their lives every day to keep us here at home safe and free.

“Keep Old Tools Alive!”

We now have a new online store located at www.shop.roseantiquetools.net

From the About us page:

Welcome to Rose Tools, Inc. also known as Rose Antique Tools. My name is Donna Rose Allen owner and operator and everything in between.

I have been collecting tools for over forty years and it is definitely an addiction as you can see. My goal is to educate and keep the old tools alive. That is why we are a different kind of website which mixes the antique tools with the new tools. We are an authorized dealer for Dremel, Bosch, Rotozip, Skill and Flexcut tools. We have been selling tools online since 2001 and have shipped all over the world! We have even sold tools to Universal Studios for a movie that was released in 2007 called “Evan Almighty”. Operating hours to visit our shop are by appointment only.  I take great pride in my company, my commitment to customer service and in the tools that I sell. Our online store is designed to provide you with a safe and secure environment to browse and shop our product catalog.

We are located in Northwest Arkansas at:

15086 Fielding Road,

Gravette, Arkansas 72736

You can visit the educational part of our website at www.roseantiquetools.com

Please note that I am not an appraiser an antique is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it!

One of the ideas Danna Crawford came up with to get folks to open up and share information is our monthly meeting using Skype.

In the Army we would have referred to the meeting as a BOGSAT (that is a Bunch of Guys Sitting Around Talking) where more things get resolved than in any committee.

We meet on the third Monday of each month at 9:00 PM Eastern Time.  Attendance is open to all members and everyone has a chance to talk about what they are involved with and to bring up any challenges they are facing concerning all aspects of online business.  Most issues are resolved in the meeting and those that are not are followed up on by someone with knowledge that may help.

This is like getting a lifetime consultation contract for the price of your VOL membership.  But it is not all business.  The meetings are fun, entertaining and may last well into the night, so join up and join in, and have fun.
